Looks like the nextBachelorengagement is around the corner.

While attending the54th Academy of Country Music Awardsin Las Vegas on Sunday, Underwood, 27, revealed he’s planning on proposing to Randolph, 23, sooner rather than later.

“Honestly, if I was a betting man I would say it would happen within the next year, yes,” he toldEntertainment Tonight.

The former football player said the two are still “trying to live as normal lives we can” as the post-finale craziness dies down.

“We’re enjoying it, we’re having fun,” he said. “I think, right now, at this point in our relationship, we’re enjoying this, trying to be as normal as possible. But you know, we’ve talked about our engagement and talked about taking the next step in our relationship and [decided] one thing at a time.”

And it’s safe to say Underwood is completely smitten: As they walked the carpet together and posed for photos, the former Bachelor pulled out a disposable camera and joined the photographers to snap photos of his girlfriend in her shimmering black and silver gown.

Earlier in the night, Underwood shared a since-deleted tweet mentioning how good Randolph looked in her dress, but Randolph told PEOPLE on the red carpet that she wasn’t exactly thrilled about the missive.

“I was so mad at him for tweeting that,” she said with a laugh. “I was like, ‘Pressure, now, pressure!'”

Underwood said he’d “learned from the mistake.”

“I guess I’m not going to hype her dress up for the next red carpet,” he acknowledged. “But I mean, look at it — she’s beautiful.”

Randolph shockedBachelorNation during Underwood’s season when she was unable to commit to an engagement and left him before their Fantasy Suite date. But Underwoodfought to get her backafter breaking up with the remaining contestants because he knew Randolph was the one for him.

“I thought I made the right decision in leaving,” Randolph told PEOPLE in March. “But Colton fought for me. And he has shown me what a healthy relationship looks like.”

“Colton never put pressure on me,” she continued. “I think that’s why we’re still here today, because we took it at our own pace. Wedidn’t want to rush somethingthat was going to be forever.”

“She doesn’t have a ring on her finger yet,” Underwood told PEOPLE of theirengagement plans. “But she will, one day.”
