Having just fly Dragonstone for Harrenhal after a bitter argument with his wife — the old Rhaenyra ( Emma D’Arcy)—Daemon Targaryen ( Matt Smith ) was not expecting to persist into family unit in the palace ’s gloomy ruins . But Harrenhal has a style of preying on a troubled brain …

“ I had never worked with Milly in the first season , so that was interesting , ” Patel told Variety . “ When she and Matt came in , the first matter we utter about was their intimacy and how much they trusted each other with each other ’s feelings . The next part of it was get inside of Daemon ’s head , because , up until this point , he has been responsible for for kill someone but has n’t processed it . The intellect for this scene was for Daemon to really face himself and see himself in the mirror . ”

In the abbreviated scene , Daemon encounter a young Rhaenyra , who ’s busily stitching Jaehaerys Targaryen ’s head back onto his tiny body . Rhaenyra ’s airy visual aspect terminate there , but it ’s just one piece of the psychological pie that ’ll uphold hit Daemon in the facial expression in season two . “ The whole season is a spirit level of therapy for Daemon , ” Patel continued . “ He ’s been running so tight , he ’s never really stopped to feel things . When she turn and reckon at him , I desire to check that that without words he would be confronted because she ’s come across him and knows him . What Matt did so attractively is he allowed himself to feel in that moment . I think of being in tears when we were shoot that , because the elbow room that Matt portrayed Daemon ’s botheration as she looked at him , I felt the self-reproach and sorrow — which we do n’t see in Daemon very often . ”
