Foxconn says it ’s drop dead to bring its employees under the dictates of Chinese jurisprudence , which max out at 60 hours per week ( still a pot ! ) and 36 minute of monthly extra time :
Foxconn ’s concessions , including cutting extra time for its 1.2 million mainland Chinese workers while promising recompense that protect them against losing income , were backed by Apple .
So workers will be spared some of the spirit - killing iPad drudgery , and Foxconn will obey its res publica ’s labor practice of law . But according to Reuters these same proletarian are fine with being exploited :
Many workers seemed unconvinced that their pay would n’t be turn out along with their hours . For some Formosan factory actor – who make much of their income from recollective 60 minutes of extra time – the approximation of less work for the same pay could take getting used to .
“ We are disquieted we will have less money to drop . Of course , if we work less overtime , it would mean less money , ” said Wu , a 23 - year - old employee from Hunan province in south China .
A couple possibilities :
• These quotation mark are either the product of Foxconn manufacturing or worker coercion in an attempt at ego - defense .
• These worker are so underpaid that the only way they really can get by is through backbreaking , illegal overtime .
• The laborers , 99 per centum of which are migrant from brutally inadequate Formosan villages , would rather spend every waking moment fumble rubble off of iPad screens than go back to what they were doing before — the old badness is better than horrific rationale .
