One of the braggy shifts inStar warfare historyhappened when the devotee got control . That ’s not how story would phrase it , but after Disney purchased the enfranchisement , it was the first time people who grew up loving the picture werefinally move over a chance to make them . While George Lucas was in charge , hoi polloi like J.J. Abrams , Rian Johnson , and Jon Favreau were n’t given a shot . However , from the sequel trilogy ahead , filmmaker buff like them were now steering the galaxy far , far , away .
On the surface , this seems like an obvious win . Who better to make a great Star Wars moving-picture show than a Star Wars fan ? But almost everything that ’s amount out since that time has beenincredibly divisiveand one of those filmmakers thinks he knows why .
“ It ’s really easy , [ with ] Star Wars , for really overbold people to fall behind their way . And strangely , it seems they care too much , ” Tony Gilroy , one of the architects of Rogue Oneand the creator of new series Andor , toldRolling Stone . “ Some form of altitude sickness or vertigo bechance , and they lose some natural power or perception in some way . And it was helpful , at least on Rogue , to be A-one - clinical and say , ‘ Hey , why are we choosing to give-up the ghost ? ’ You really have to give care about the people that are going to sacrifice themselves if that ’s the naked material , the engine of the history . ”

Gilroy famouslysaid after Rogue Onethat he did n’t really add up into the franchise loving it . But after that moving-picture show see its fashion , he began to see its potential . Hence Andorand hence it being a Star Warsshow unlike all of the other Star Wars shows around it . One not beholden to the Force , Jedi , Sith , lightsabers , or links to previous films or Word .
But is Gilroy right here ? Do film maker like Abrams , Johnson , or Favreau care too much ? They certainly do precaution . That ’s obvious . The real question then is does that passion cloud their judgments ? That ’s much harder to visualize out . In the case of Abrams and The Force Awakens , the fact the film ’s structure so closely mirrors A New Hope could be take care as a plus or a negative . Was he just doing what he know worked ? Or was he too scared to mess with the chemical formula ? For The Last Jedi , Johnson purposefully mess with the rule and , as we all know , it wasnot see with worldwide praise . Most multitude love what Favreau has done with The Mandalorian , make for in Dave Filoni and telling original stories using bequest quality and mythology . But others might say he ’s being too beholden to those character and wince the existence as a issue .
