Nostalgia is a Brobdingnagian part of the charm in Marvel ’s Guardians of the Galaxy . There ’s the classical pop music , of course , but also the veneration Chris Pratt ’s character Peter Quill , a.k.a . Star - Lord , has for the pappa polish of his childhood , thing the character get laid before he was snatched off Earth . This sit a problem in the sequel , which Pratt really wanted to make fashion , way bad .
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol . 2 , we at last encounter Star - Lord ’s father , Ego , who is played by fabled actor Kurt Russell . It ’s a huge moment for the character and a stellar objet d’art of cast , but something about it did n’t quite fit in Pratt ’s psyche .
“ Peter Quill would live who Kurt Russell is , ” Pratt say io9 in a recent interview . “ So we had to make the world where Kurt Russell is not one of his picture the elbow room he really would have been . All these amazing star of television and film of that era are the icons of Peter Quill ’s ideology he ’s created around what Earth was . ”
And that ’s when Pratt had his estimate — an idea that was very quickly rejected .
“ I kept pitching [ director ] James [ Gunn ] the idea , ‘ Should I have a go at it that that ’s Kurt Russell ? ’ ” Pratt say . “ He ’s like , ‘ Just trust me . Do n’t . ’ ”

Meanwhile , Pratt has already take the next visual aspect of the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers : Infinity War , out next May , where he allege Star - Lord will extend to evolve .
“ He ’s more grown up , ” Pratt say . “ In the first movie he became the leader of the Guardians and that was his discharge : to go from a selfish little nestling who ’s socially stunted as a nine or 10 years old , to someone who ’s determined to become the loss leader of this riffraff squad and strain to keep them out of problem , with motley results . In the second pic , he watch some seriously painful lessons about sexual love and loss . And so , I think the connections are deeper . I think , you ’re gon na see some doodly-squat go down in Infinity War . It ’s really hefty . But he does n’t go back . He is a different character , for indisputable . ”
