According to leading madam Charlize Theron , Netflix did n’t quietly killOld Guard 2when nobody was looking . Talking toVariety , she explain that shooting had in reality wrapped back in 2022 , but the streamer undergo a “ transition ” the film got stuck between . Further complicating affair is that military post - yield got shut down just over a month into the process , andthenthe strikes strike . Even so , Theron has faith the continuation will get along , pronounce “ we finally picked it back up , and I ’m really excited about it . ”

The Old Guardis based on a series of comics by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández that ’s spawned three graphic novels , the last of which dropped in 2021 . Netflix apparently wants to turn this into a full - on franchise , and indicated last year the sequel ’s end “ demands ” they do athird film . Hopefully those plans still come to fruition , and without the nearly five - year break between installments .
