Another triumph for Once Upon a clock time last nighttime . Can we just stop drop the budget on airheaded fairy crap , and keep concentrate on best authorship ? For the first time in two age , Once did something we ’ve always wanted to see on screen : certify how broken the fairytale mindset of goodness vs. wickedness rightfully is . Spoilers ahead …
Instead of focusing on another flashback about another unpointed fairy wight , Once showed what befall when the curse first started . It . Was . Brilliant . Regina was vivid .
Every day , Past Reg wake up a Grinch smiling , looking over everyone ’s wretchedness . But eventually , she catch blase . Not surprising — I ca n’t conceive of how long that sort of Groundhog Day cycle would entertain you , especially if your only highlight is “ your special hot seat ” at Granny ’s Diner . Anyway , Regina baffle blase ( pretty quickly too — we ’re speak like one week into the curse , she ’s already kind of dunzo with the whole shebang ) .
get into two actual - reality mass , a sire and his son — who also fill the mandatory Once rule of introducing a Modern maternal chassis in each episode . The couple wander into Storybrooke , and Regina jump acting all Evil Queen around humans . It ’s delightful . The little son bewitch her heart , and she determine she want him , so she tries to take him . His father , course , flips shit .
Regina ’s unfitness to understand or even care about what ’s decent on Earth and the insane conflict it make ( not necessarily for her , but for her incapacitated human victim ) is delicious . This is what we desire from Once ! Give me 1,000 impulsive morons or Greco-Roman villains , who are force to navigate through our reality ! Regina accept she ’s not good at loving , that ’s because she came from a land where honey is n’t really something you deal with , you ’re either secure or bad ALL THE TIME .
Just look at Snow — there ’s a black daub on her heart now because of the slaying of Cora , so now Snow is obviously DOOMED . It ’s fun , and it ’s the honest - to - good first time the audience is in reality allowed to get to know Regina , as opposed to being force feast obvious emotional reactions to her journey because someone died , or something roughshod hap , etc .
Overall , heck yeah . More of this all the time , please .
Oh and monumental yell out to thethe chic - geekfor the “ realisation that during the oath , Regina woke up every morning with her makeup and hair utterly done . ”
