There are Jell - O shots . And then there are the shots fromMy Jello Americans : Cory Kete , Moe Sheehan , and Megan Booth have elevated the Jell - O shot into an artistic creation class . An art form that gets you wasted .
I sit down with these titan of gelatin in our internet office .
Okay. What possibly possessed you to do such important work?
Cory : Moe and I lived together last year in Philly before Moe moved to Austin , Texas . We wanted to make Jell - O shots for a special party and fit out and bought a ton of provision . Even though the party was play false out we made the shots anyway , shoot them , and produce the blog .
Moe : The idea was always there . It was something we each had since birth and it was n’t until this particularly terrible winter in Philadelphia that the theme was bump and worked into our witting brainpower . The estimation was always a big science project . That ’s how we do . self-aggrandising . And Science .
( It was also this particularly painful winter that convinced me to move into the blistering Austin heating plant . )

Cory : Moe move to Austin , and our mutual friend Meg now help with the production in Philly . Moe ’s migration has made things more exciting . I think we both are interested with trying to affect each other and raise the saloon . It ’s not competitive though ! We check that we each know how every shot is created , so any of the finical shots and techniques can be re - created on either side of the nation .
Do any of you have a culinary or mixology background?
Cory : We all have been in the food industry for over ten years from each one , mostly serve in restaurants . Moe has been a barman . I have a few cocktail book but most of the flavors I descend up with are revolutionise by whatever the construct of the shot is , for instance , theMesozoicis supposed to look like amber , so I used maple sirup and two liquor I thought would work well with that , spiced rummy and SNAP .
Moe : I have been a bartender and always liked get along up with new drinks . I never got the knack for recording anything like recipes so every time I made something it was a little different . ( But striking nonetheless . ) I also was a mediocre pastry cook , which has little effect on my Jell - O work .
How do you dream up the ideas for your next creation?
Cory : We have have a long to - do list of shots to make , and are inspired by : molds we see , interesting component , movies , thing people say , our childhoods , our incubus . We ’ve made dead reckoning for an ice - cream - themed silk screening show . We are catch ready to do a monsters - themed artistic creation show . We have given each other theme and ideas . Sometimes , it ’s what we can make with whatever we have on hired hand .
Moe : We become instigate by anything around us . The ingredients at the Dollar Tree , or Cousins or my favorite grocery in Austin , Fiesta ! A password someone say to us . Pop culture citation or Gregorian calendar holidays . Random combination of numbers and people of colour . Anything looks like a Jell - O snapshot once you have the Knox in you .
Often people require us to make slam within a theme . I made Mexican Independence Day shots for the Mexican eatery where I work in Austin — flan and Mexican flags .

Are you experimenting with molecular mixology and chemistry?
Moe : I ’ve been doing experiments with solvability andtonicity . I really need to submerse Jell - O in a solution , or some item in gelatin . I ’ve been trying to work on how long until sugar confect dissolve in gelatin .
to boot , there are multiplication when we add sugar to the top of gelatine causing some piddle to phlebotomize out . It ’s a pretty interesting study , though at clock time it does n’t result in successful or esthetically pleasing Jell - O shots .
Cory : Jell - O is an exciting medium . We are learning first mitt what does and does not work . There are a few shot ideas we have our heart mark on create that are far more complicated then anything we ’ve tried and have required many late nights of experimenting .

What’s your favorite shot you’ve made thus far?
Cory : I lean to like whatever shaft we ’ve most recently made , but if I have to give an resolution , I ’d say theDigestif , because it serves dual purposes .
Moe : My pet has always beenLet Sleeping dwarf Trygve Halvden Lie . To be absolutely fair I probably have n’t given any of the more late shot a chance . I ’ve close off my heart a bit I opine . But you know what they say when you find that special one you just know . I also really likeWhen Pigs Hulaand theBacon and Eggs . Oh , yes and theJason Voorhes . And theNeapolitan Ice Cream Sandwich . And theMesozoic .
So that ’s my favorite .
