In March 2001 , the Taliban destroy the Buddhas of Bamiyan , a span of giant statue dating to the 6th century in the Bamyan vale in central Afghanistan . Now , the statues have been resurrected with 3D twinkle projection technology .
A Chinese dyad , Janson Yu and Liyan Hu worked to formulate a projector at the cost of $ 120,000 , which they first tested in China before bringing the system to the UNESCO World Heritage Site this past weekend . With the permission of UNESCO and the Afghan Government , they were able-bodied to project a 3D simulacrum into the slots in the cliffside that housed one of the statue . For the even , the statues endure once again in a symbolic body of work of artistic creation . While the statues are physically endure , they can not be easy erased from our collective memory .
