A robot start spell a Torah today at Berlin ’s Judaic Museum . It ’s part of an fine art expo that will see the robot finish its oeuvre — 304,805 Hebrew letter of the alphabet afterward — in 3 month . The exhibit will be up until January 2015 .

The Torah - writing golem was developed by the German artists ’ group robotlab and was presented for the first time Thursday at Berlin ’s Jewish Museum . While it takes the machine about three months to complete the 80 - meter ( 260 - metrical unit ) -long scroll , a rabbi or a sofer — a Judaic scribe — call for nearly a twelvemonth . But unlike the rabbi ’s work , the golem ’s Torah ca n’t be used in a temple .
